LERIBE- A two day cultural festival held in Hlotse, Leribe on 30th April and 1st May 2016 was an event bursting with fanfare, music and dance. UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund participated in the occasion to enhance visibility of its mandate especially with the new robust programme of test and treat as well as deepening focus on Comprehensive Sexuality Education.
Revelers were able to get information about UNFPA and its mandate and provided with family planning commodities especially condoms. UNFPA supported performance that passed messages of HIV prevention and Comprehensive Sexuality Education through its popular supported SYP Artists, Stlofa. Stlofa is supported by UNFPA, under the Safeguarding Young People (SYP) programme. He belted out songs abhorring gender based violence and promoting the rights of young people much to the excitement of crowd.
Among those in attendance were various Government Departments that also provided multiplicity of services, for instance, Ministry of Home Affairs focused on National Civil Registry, Ministry of Health on HIV Testing and Counselling while Ministry of Water provided clean water services for the attendees. These were accompanied by cabinet ministers who also visited the UNFPA stall where they were briefed about UNFPA and its work.
The festival is held annually and this year it was on its 10th year.
