Purpose of Consultancy

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is looking for services of an Editor for a Series of Personality Profiles for six (6) Most Influential Women in Lesotho. The aim of the series is to empower other women especially young women and girls. This is also in line with UNFPA’s Women Empowerment programme as outlined in the ICPD which articulates women’s empowerment and gender equality as not only an aspiration for dignity, but as pivotal to creating enabling conditions in which women would have the possibility to define the direction of their lives, expand their capabilities, and elaborate their chosen contributions to society.

The Editor will ensure that the content is, accurate, appropriate, timely and engaging.

Scope of work:

 Specific tasks for the Editor

The purpose of this assignment is to provide professional expertise in proof reading and editing

Tasks and Responsibilities:

 · Review, edit and proof-read the six (6) Personality Profiles of six influential women in Lesotho.

· Edit and finalise draft to ensure grammatical accuracy, factual accuracy, consistent and logical formatting, coherence etc.

· Ensure that all content is free of spelling mistakes, and professionally and logically presented.

·The editing process might also entail substantive redrafting and synthetizing of parts of the existing text to make the report/document more readable and understandable. 

 

Duration and working schedule:

Contract duration: six (6) months

 

Place where services are to be delivered:

 Remote mode of work

Delivery dates and how work will be delivered (e.g. electronic, hard copy etc.):

Deliverables will be as follows;

  • 6 edited Personality Profiles

 

Monitoring and progress control, including reporting requirements, periodicity format and deadline:

Content will be approved by the Representative before publication

 

Supervisory arrangements:

The Editor will be supervised by and report to the Assistant Representative and Representative

 

Expected travel:

N/A

 

Required expertise, qualifications and competencies, including language requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Literature and English Language or related field

Competencies:

· Fluency in English is a must

· Solid editorial skills with demonstrated ability for logical and analytical writing and editing

· Ability to synthesize complex documents into key messages.

 · Experience with editing and proofreading documents

 · Ability to work in a fast paced environment and produce quality work in a short time, within deadlines and under pressure

· Ability to work independently

Experience:

· At least 2 years’ experience in editorial related work.

 · Demonstrated ability to write, edit or proof read reports for various audiences

Inputs / services to be provided by UNFPA or implementing partner (e.g support services, office space, equipment), if applicable:

Editor:

● 6 Edited Articles

Maintain close contact by email and telephonically with UNFPA

UNFPA Lesotho:

  • 6 draft articles
